The original research and review papers published in the journal Atherosclerosis Plus deeply explored several key aspects of atherosclerosis, a complex pathological process. First, the research emphasized the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, including endothelial dysfunction, lipid metabolism disorder, inflammatory response and smooth muscle cell proliferation. These mechanisms work together to cause lipid deposition and plaque formation in the arterial wall.

Secondly, the paper discusses the genetic basis of atherosclerosis and points out that some genetic variations may increase the risk of individuals developing the disease. In addition, the study also involves a variety of risk factors, including dyslipidemia, hypertension, obesity and diabetes, which can exacerbate the process of atherosclerosis.
