Urban Challenge usually refers to a series of activities or competitions aimed at solving problems encountered in urban development. These issues may include but are not limited to traffic congestion, environmental pollution, housing shortage, insufficient public space, social inequality, and uneven economic development. Urban challenge activities encourage individuals, teams, or organizations to propose innovative solutions to improve the quality of life for urban residents and the sustainable development of the city. With the growth of global population and the acceleration of urbanization, cities are facing unprecedented challenges. Urbanization not only brings economic growth and social progress, but also brings a series of environmental and social problems.

Urban challenge activities are often combined with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aiming to achieve more sustainable and inclusive urban development through innovation and cooperation. Urban challenges typically require the participation of experts from different fields such as urban planners, architects, engineers, sociologists, environmental scientists, and policy makers to comprehensively consider various aspects of urban development.
